The GIS Center Department in Dubai Municipality has participated in the BIM and Digital Twin Middle East Conference and Expo 2022, which was held from 20-21 September. Eng. Maitha Al Nuaimi, Acting Director of the GIS Center, presented the Dubai Digital Twin project, which represents a digital map of the Emirate of Dubai that displays live geospatial data through a 3D geospatial database that contains maps and information for all facilities, landmarks, and infrastructure and government assets. Al Nuaimi has also discussed the most important initiatives and projects of Dubai Municipality that focus on digital transformation and innovation, as well as the continuous efforts of the Municipality to put the Emirate of Dubai in a leading position by using advanced technology to transform future challenges into opportunities and achievements that can lead the UAE to advanced stages of development and efficiency.
Dr. Ali Ismail, BIM Expert in GISC Department discussed the buildingSMART UAE Chapter which develops open global standards for BIM, he also highlighted the vision and objectives of the organization and the benefits of joining a community of specialists to develop a unified vision and standard for BIM at UAE level. This will be achieved through coordination between various government entities and private sector institutions to lead the digital transformation of the construction sector for buildings, assets and infrastructure facilities, to help owners, consultants, contractors and operators to work efficiently throughout the project life cycle.
