Under the theme “Visualize, Analyse, and Realize GIS World,” the Dubai Municipality represented by the GIS Center Deaprtment organized the GIS Day 2024 event at Al Shindagha Museum.
The event brought together a distinguished group of experts and professionals in the field, along with sector partners and GIS technology enthusiasts, who gathered to exchange ideas, share experiences, and explore the future of this vital domain.
The celebration began with a welcoming speech by Eng. Maitha Al Nuaimi, Director of the GIS Center, who emphasized the significance of the day in celebrating achievements and envisioning the future of GIS. She expressed her gratitude and appreciation to all attendees and contributors to this special event, highlighting the continuous support and fruitful collaboration within the geospatial community.
The event featured a variety of unique activities, including the signing of a Service Level Agreement (SLA) between Dubai Municipality and the Ports, Customs, and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC) in the field of geospatial infrastructure for Dubai.
The agreement was signed by Eng. Maitha Al Nuaimi and Eng. Muneera Hussain Rasheed, Director of Civil Engineering Division at PCFC.
Additionally, the event included presentations on the latest technologies in AI and GIS applications, alongside live demonstrations of innovation and creativity by global partners such as:

• GoV01
• Leica Geosystems
• Mip Map Technologies
There was also notable participation from the academic sector, including United Arab Emirates University.
The highlight of the event was the launch of the Geospatial Business and Innovation Incubator “GeoHub Award,” targeting the academic sector. The winners of this award will be announced during Innovation Month in February 2025.
The event also included a special exhibition for vendors, with participation from several entities and companies across the UAE showcasing the latest technologies, smart services, and solutions in the GIS field.
The celebration concluded with Mr. Mohammed Essa, Sales Director at GISTEC-Esri, presenting Eng. Maitha Al Nuaimi with a unique copy of the book “The Power of Where” by Jack Dangermond, founder of Esri.
This special edition is one of only 10 copies gifted to the most prominent influencers & directors in the field within the UAE, in recognition of their outstanding contributions
The GIS Day 2024 reaffirms the pivotal role of GIS in addressing future challenges and supporting innovation and sustainable development. Collaboration among experts and partners remains a cornerstone for building a bright future driven by technology and creativity.
